Ski areas are fun in summer!

In summer, the white runs of the winter ski areas are replaced with deep green mountains and fields. Here you’ll find a wide range of activities to enjoy: action sports that make use of the ski slopes, viewing the scenery accessible by the area’s gondolas and ski lifts, restaurants serving gourmet meals, and much more.

Yuzawa Kogen Panorama Park

Exiting the world’s largest ropeway—capable of carrying 166 people—you’ll come to a spacious, open deck with amazing views of the majestic mountains all around. Enjoy hiking and other activities that make use of the mountain terrain, savor delicious local cuisine, take in the Alpine Botanical Garden featuring rare mountain blossoms, and more.

A wide range of activities

Some of the fun outdoor activities in the great Echigo-Yuzawa outdoors include the Summer Bobsled 706, which runs down one of the ski slopes; the Zipline Adventure; Mountaincarts; and the Gorone no Hara field athletics area.

Alpine Botanical Garden

The Rock Garden recreates the natural Alpine environment found at an altitude of 2,500 meters; here you’ll find more than 200 species of rare high-mountain plants. Also recommended is a stroll on the boardwalk circling Ayamegaike Pond, and the beautiful scenery reflected on the water surface.

Gourmet cuisine to enjoy in the highlands

Enjoy a variety of cuisines according to how you wish to spend your time in the spacious grounds, including authentic Italian cuisine at “Alpina,” where you can enjoy pizza baked in a wood-fired oven, and “kumo cafe,” which features an open deck and a footbath.

GALA Summer Park

Two new attractions are arriving this summer! Visitors of all ages can also enjoy a variety of activities like Mountaincart and Active Buggy, set against a vast natural backdrop with sweeping views of the Tanigawa Mountain Range. There are plenty of indoor options to keep the fun going regardless of the weather, and limited-time events are planned throughout the season.

Panorama Coaster

This exhilarating new attraction sends you gliding down a 305-meter track powered entirely by gravity. Surrounded by crisp air and majestic mountains, feel the speed and openness as you coast freely through the natural landscape.

Panorama Seesaw

Japan's first giant electric seesaw is making its debut this summer. Measuring roughly 9 meters long, the ride lifts you to a top height of about 7 meters above the ground. You can enjoy feeling as if you are floating, a sensation that is only found here.

Mountaincart

In this popular and thrilling activity, you steer and brake your way down the mountain. A highly anticipated new course has arrived, offering an exhilarating ride full of curves that make the most of the natural terrain.

* From the summer of 2026, GALA Yuzawa changes its name from “GALA YUZAWA SNOW RESORT” to “GALA YUZAWA MOUNTAIN FIELD,” marking the facility as one to be enjoyed in every season.

The Veranda at Ishiuchi Maruyama

A comfortable seven-minute gondola ride takes you to the observation area. It is the perfect spot to relax and take in the expansive views of Minamiuonuma's peaceful countryside and mountain ranges. Visitors can also enjoy various activities, including buggy rides on a dedicated off-road course.

The Veranda at Ishiuchi Maruyama

Filled with picturesque spaces, including the Grand Terrace offering panoramic views, Dome Tents for a true glamping experience, and the Field Lounge lined with unique tents. The Field Lounge offers a hassle-free BBQ where everything is provided for you.

Snowy mountain pancakes

This dessert features a unique pancake that is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with fruit. Finished with a dusting of powdered sugar to resemble a snowy mountain. Be sure to also try the limited-time summer menu.

Night Terrace

Enjoy the unforgettable views only available at Ishiuchi Maruyama ski area, such as the sight of the twilight and sunset, and the night view of Minami-Uonuma city. Only open for a limited period in summer, so be sure to check the website before visiting!

Sightseeing spots near Echigo-Yuzawa Station

While enjoying everything Echigo-Yuzawa’s ski areas have to offer in summer, be sure to take a few side trips to take in other regional attractions. There’s amazing scenery and a rich history here in Japan’s Snow Country. Even inside Echigo-Yuzawa Station are a number of shops selling Niigata confectioneries and other famous products, making it an ideal place for some shopping.

Take a daytrip to historic Echigo-Yuzawa Onsen

In the area around Echigo-Yuzawa Station are many onsen (hot spring) inns, where you can enjoy a relaxing bath and delicious dining. Many of the onsen are available for non-staying guests as well. There are also outdoor baths, footbaths, and even an onsen right within the station—all great for a quick stop during your day.

Three interconnected ski resorts means lots of skiing choices!

Echigo-Yuzawa is one of the snowiest areas of Japan perfect for skiing! Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama ski areas can all be enjoyed with the single YUZAWA SNOW LINK lift ticket. The three resorts are connected by ropeways and lifts, providing a full 48 runs with levels for every skier and boarder to enjoy. For winter sports, Echigo-Yuzawa is the place to be!
